The Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression is the main institution dealing with the matters of Veterans of struggles for independence and Victims of Oppression in Poland. The Office's functions and resposibilities have been defined in legal acts establishing the special status of beneficiaries of the Veterans' law. It's main tasks consist of:

  • awarding the status of Veteran struggles for independence, Victim of Oppression and person deported to perform forced labor
  • providing the Veterans and Victims of Oppression with help, special care and proper respect
  • spreading the tradition of struggles for independence of Poland

Visit of the President of the World Veterans Federation in Warsaw 22.01.2016 r.

The President of the World Veterans Federation, Dan-Viggo Bergtun, visited Warsaw on 21 January 2016 at the invitation of Jan Stanisław Ciechanowski, the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression. The visit commenced with a ceremonial changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier followed by the laying of commemorative wreaths.

Ceremonial meeting inaugurating preparations for the 75th anniversary of over 120,000 Poles finding shelter in Iran 19.01.2016 r.

On 18 January 2016, Jan Stanisław Ciechanowski, the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression, participated in a formal meeting inaugurating preparations for events to mark the 75th anniversary of over 120,000 Poles – both soldiers of the Army of General Anders who were evacuated from the Soviet Union and civilians – being given refuge by Iran.

The album “Thank You, Portugal! Polish civilian and military refugees at the western extremity of Europe in the years 1940-1945” 24.11.2015 r.

On 23 November 2015, the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression Jan Stanisław Ciechanowski took part in the launch of the album dedicated to Polish civilian and military refugees who were given shelter by Portugal during World War II. The meeting in the Porczyński Gallery in Warsaw was combined with an exhibition dedicated to that very theme. The organisers were the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression, the Portuguese Embassy in Poland and the publishing house Rytm sp. z o.o.

28th General Assembly of the World Veterans Federation 05.08.2015 r.

The 28th General Assembly of the World Veterans Federation will be held in Sopot, Poland, at the invitation of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression and WVF member associations in Poland.

All meetings will be held at the Sheraton Sopot Hotel.

Participants are expected to arrive on 30th August and depart on 5th September.

75th anniversary of the fighting of the 1st Grenadier Division in France 22.06.2015 r.

On 21 June 2015, the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression Jan Stanisław Ciechanowski took part in a ceremony commemorating the 75thanniversary of the fighting of the Polish 1st Grenadier Division at the cemetery in Dieuze in Lorraine in France.
