The Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression is the main institution dealing with the matters of Veterans of struggles for independence and Victims of Oppression in Poland. The Office's functions and resposibilities have been defined in legal acts establishing the special status of beneficiaries of the Veterans' law. It's main tasks consist of:

  • awarding the status of Veteran struggles for independence, Victim of Oppression and person deported to perform forced labor
  • providing the Veterans and Victims of Oppression with help, special care and proper respect
  • spreading the tradition of struggles for independence of Poland


About the Office

Council for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression

The Council for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression is an advisory body cooperating with the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression.

The Members of the Council are appointed by the Head of the Office from Veterans and Victims of Oppression, concerning the correct representation of all organisations. The Council cosists of 12 to 15 members, who perform their functions voluntarily and elect among themselves a chairman, his deputies and a secretary.

The tasks of the Council cosist of:

  • evaluation of legislative initiatives udertaken by the Office,
  • infering in cases important for Veterans and Victims of Oppression.

The Council can appeal to the society, Veterans' organisations and state authorities.
